OS: XP Pro OEM w/SP1
CPU/Ram: 2700+ / 2GB
Comment:

I recently built a new system consisting of the following parts:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mobo
Athlon 2700+
1GB ECC Reg DDR
2, 512 MB DDR

I have installed XP Pro OEM and am now every once in awhile recieving a 0x0000008E error. I tested the RAM and one of the 512 sticks was bad. I replaced it and am still getting the error. Seems to do it very randomly. Could it be that I am running a 1GB stick of ECC and the 2 512's are non ECC? If not, what else might be the problem?

Thanks,

Blaze

You've apparently found one cause. The other might be the RAM configuration itself.

hi,
forget abot MS they can't help in this case.
so i have the same MoBo (system)and these error messages are smthg common.
the only one problem is your RAM. the best thing to do is to refer with the asus.com go here http://uk.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?langs=11&m=A7N8X%20Deluxe
and pls swap(replace) the Ram sticks with proper one. this MoBo requires Non ECC Ram and the Dimm should have the same brand and same chip#. I had the same problem, simply I followed the instructions and since then - No ProBlems
Good Luck
