Comment:

I'm receiving the 0x00000024 error on boot, citing no driver.
Can't get into Safemode(same error). Last Good Configuration doesn't help. Repair install doesn't help.

I've looked at the Microsoft article, and nearly every google result I could find.

I've run chkdsk /r from Recovery Console on install cd.
I've replaced ntfs.sys, fastfat.sys, and a handful of others I've seen either suggested or related to the error.

I previously had another problem, http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/134271.html , which I think I have resolved and now I'm having this one.
I've taken this much time, I hope I can get this fixed.

And I've already did various checks for bad memory (memtest, etc.)
For good measure, just using 1 stick of ram.

Already read it, tried most of the suggestions.

I've been able to chkdsk, as I said, and replaced ntfs.sys, which is what most of the suggestions end up instructing.

My goal is not to have to format.

I'll be using a Helix cd to see if I can fix it with that, and to be using Samba to copy my files to another computer.

If ntfsfix doesn't fix it, then I'll just format.
