~ icon keeps appearing

Hi, I keep noticing an unsupported file type icon on my desktop, it is labelled "~" I am unsure what program put it there but have not done anything out of the ordinary or saved such file myself. The size of the file is 173KB and 176KB on disk. The last program I ran was norton system works check up. But it may have been there before this. Main programs i use are Nero, IE, outlook express and Norton antivirus.
