Comment:

Iam curious if the IIS service in WindowsXP Pro SP2 MCE 2005 is needed on a home PC that is not connected to a network or to any other PC in the home ! I do use the PC for surfing the internet ,checking email and giving the good people at computing.net a headace ! I checked my event veiwer and I noticed I have a error # 3221225529 related to inetpub/catalog.wci ,I unchecked the indexing service in Windows Add/Remove Windows conponents in control panel ,however I did not uncheck the IIS service 13.5M.B. ? Should I revove this from my setup or leave it ? Any opinions or suggestions greatly appreciated ! FYI I already googled it ,however I never really found any definite answer to this question ?
Thanks ,Nick

May help you to see what Black Viper says --

NOTE that page says ---
Leave it uninstalled, mainly because IIS has been "popular" for crackers to break.

IIS is only needed if you are running a web server or FTP server. If you are not using any of these functions then it is not needed and can be un-installed.

If you ever do decide to run your own web server or FTP server then there are far better alternatives than IIS.

Technically IIS is for testing, as you might need it if you program web sites. Otherwise, you're better off without it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with IIS. IIS is far simpler to configure for a novice than Apache or any other Unix/Linux equivalent. It doesnt represent any security risks by having it installed on his OS. A security risk is only present if he`s firewall is compromised and the necessary ports are open on the firewall that point back to the website bearing in mind the security configuration of IIS.

If it is not required though remove it as there are a number of services that run under IIS and will be consuming a portion of memory aswell as CPU cycles.
