Zone Alarm has known for some time that Microsoft was getting ready to come out with its next generation operating system. They have been working on it for five years. Why hasn't Zone Alarm been as diligent by developing Zone Alarm Pro Firewall to work with this new operating system.
I think it is absolutely horrible that Zone Alarm has not readied its product to work with this new systme.
Yes, I have 144 days left on my Zone Alarm Pro for free upgrades but what if Zone Alarm takes longer than that in order to come up with a Vista ready product.
It looks like the Zone Alarm Pro users are the ones who will be paying the price for Zone Alarms lack of response toward developing a compatible product. Each day we are not able to use the product is one day less we will have for the "free" upgrade.
I think the Zone Alarm should "freeze" the number of "free" upgrade days left until such a time as there is a Vista ready product.

Well it's a good rant, IMO. I use ZoneAlarm on my XP, and currently my Vista installaition has no firewall! I only ever use ZoneAlarm as it is so good at what it does and very easy to use, and I'm also annoyed that there is no Vista version.
Anyone have any news on a possible release time?

...currently my Vista installaition has no firewall!
Vista has its own firewall turned on - for inboard & outboard (the latter user unfriendly unfortunately)

I know that but it's not very imposing (though in some ways that's a good thing) but I always feel much better having ZoneAlarm running than the Windows Firewall, especially as I read it's identical to the XP SP2 version.

If you guys are not averse to unneccessary rigmarole use the built-in firewall in Vista ;-(
At this (pre-production) time what I'm using is Vista Firewall Control over the built-in one.

That seems irresistible.

Sorry to disagree. You read it wrong.

use their firewall instead ... beats zone alarm hands down (AND it's fee!):
Vista requires v. 2.0!
... and here's a test comparison table:

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

I didn't have a problem installing Zone Alarm Pro on Vista x64.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0+1
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

Does it actually work though, Cobra_R? It could just be running but not actually doing its job. Mind you, I'm running x86 anyway.

Yeah it worked fine I tested all my programs on Vista and they work fine except for AVG 7.5 free edition but that's due to the free edition not being 64bit compatible.

I tried jetico on my RTM installation & let's just stay - I got rid of the annoying thing in less than a minute. The darn thing is a paradigm of feeble-mindedness ;-(

There are many Devices that does not work on the f---ing VISTA. it is bad bad bad....
I say do not install vista untill microsoft resolve the drivers problem for all devices speciall USB devices like video and scanners devices. It is Shame that new devices do not have drivers for VISTA.

Hold on, what version of Zone Alarm Free Edition (which I use) is the latest? Because I'm on 6.5.737.000, and I assumed this is the latest because whenever I click "Check for updates" nothing comes up, and it hasn't notified me automatically of any updates either.
But just now I went to the Zone Alarm site, and it is down. However, they have links to their products to buy, including a link to download Zone Alarm Free Edition, which is:
http://dl2.zonelabs.com/bin/free/10...
So Version 7 by the looks of things. I wonder if this is Vista ready?

The built-in Vista firewall is not as bad as it's presented to be. It can be a decisive power tool in the hands of well experienced users, unfortunately most home users are not in this category.

Probably not.......or maybe under XP SP2 mode ;-)
