I have an old xp pro box, the HDD is failing. I was able to copy all the .dbx files from outlook express. The problem is how can I import them to outlook on the vista box? The import/ export wizard is no help, b/c I can't keep the old XP box up long enough to use the export wizard (it keeps crashing), and slaving the HDD to another xp machine is the best I could to to copy the dbx files. The vista machine has no Outlook Express on it, just Outlook. ANY help would be appreciated.

Those solutions seem to be only for machines that are actually running. I cannot get the XP machine to stay up long enough to export. All I can do is slave it to another XP machine and go to the .dbx files. One solution is to import to Windows mail, not Outlook. Is there a way to install Outlook Express on Vista?
Thanks

I guess I should be clear ... Windows Live Mail is what M$ considers the de facto email client for Windows Vista.

Windows Mail -- the built-in email client in Vista -- initially replaced Outlook Express. But Windows Live Mail was released a little later incidentally as a replacement -- yet again -- for both Outlook Express & Vista's Windows Mail, because of some issues Windows Mail has working with a number of free email services.

On my Vista machine, I have both Windows Mail & Windows Live Mail configured & working fine side-by-side.

I was trying to go from Outlook Express to Outlook, NOT Windows Mail or Windows Live mail. I was able to keep the XP box up long enough to install OUtlook, then import from OE, then export the .pst files to CD, then import them onto the new Vista box (with Outlook). I also figured out another way: Slave the HDD to a different XP machine, create a new user, then replace the .dbx files from the old HDD into the new users ID and then export. But I got lucky. haks again for the replies.
