Have used MS Works for Windows 2.0 for everything I've written since 1991. Just bought the new computer (first with Vista - WfW 2.0 has run fine on 95, 98, ME, XP SP 2). Installed Works, and while .wdb files open normally, .wps files do not open at all - no error, no nothing, just don't open. Any fix ideas? Thanks.

MS Works 2.0 and 2.0a were designed in 1990/91 to work with windows 3.0/3.1 as 16bit applications, upgrade to Works 9.0

I know, but Works 9.0 doesn't open my current .wps files, either. And I've got a lot of them over 16 years. Thanks.

convert the files to RTF
or setup a virtual win9x machine with MS VPC and run your old Works 2.0 from there.

Batch File Converter... seems able to Convert Work 2.0 files to a bunch of other formats...

I guess I'm pretty surprised that you haven't converted your files before now... I'm sure you have your reasons, but as you now know... since you've waited so long, you now have TONS of files to get working.I guess I have to wonder if you're still using Works 2.0 and are happy with it... why even bother with Vista to begin with??
TK.

Thanks, all, for your help.
TK, 2.0 had always worked perfectly -- on 95, 97, ME, XP. Heck, I got 16 years out of it. Not bad. Vista came on this new computer, and I'm not in a position, financially or tech-savvily, to be picky...

Ask around among your friends if anyone has an old computer with Win 95/98 they no longer use, they may be glad to get rid of it. If you can get one convert all the wps files you need to plain text (txt), you can then open them with the version you have now and reformat to current standard as required.
There's bound to be someone with an old machine sitting around gathering dust.

Vista is extremely restrictive on the software versions that will install and run. I have customers that want to use Office 2000 and have to inform them that Vista will not work correctly with the older versions. You can expect that any older software will not function in Vista. The same goes for a number of printers and other external devices, there are no drivers available for them.
