word wont open

April 3, 2009 at 02:30:17
Specs: Windows Vista
somehow my "word',and "outlook" shortcuts are saved or filed as (word.lnk) and so is outlook. I don't know what/how I managed it but neither will open now. They don't even have an "open" option. Just the "send to" and so on. There's a lot of documents that are the same way in my document file. They are solid white with NO type of icon or logo. What did I do and how do I fix it. I have 4 on-line classes and need the "word" badly. Thank you

Windows isn't seeing the Word installation, if in fact it's still there. Something maybe corrupting it. Download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

In addition to getting Malwarebytes,
Do you have the original install disks?
Because most of these will probably ask you for it.

For Word prior to 2007:

First, if you can access any document with Word,
then on the Task Bar, click Help, then Detect & Repair.

If that does not work, then
go to Add/Remove in Control Panel,
when you click on Word or Office it should offer you
a choice to Change or Remove.
Select Change and then either Repair
Or you can just re-install.

For Word 2007
Again if you can access any Word document,
In the upper left corner click the MS logo,
At the bottom of the window that opens, click Word Options,
Then click Resources
Then click Diagonstics
