Hello everyone,

I have a bit of a issue that I am hoping someone can assist me with.

Problem: When attempting to install\start a service remotely (seperate domain) on a Vista machine I am getting the following error.

"Failed to open service control manager on the remote machine. Access is denied."

*Windows Firewall is disabled
*If I install my app on the local domain I do not have this issue. The issue is only occurring when attempting to do this remotely from another domain.
*UAC is disabled, although I do not think this would have any effect on this issue
*I am able to successfully start\stop services on any XP machine on the remote domain.
*This issue is occurring for all Vista machines on the remote domain
*The account being used is a domain administrator, enterprise administrator, local administrator, and is a remote administrator of the
machines being remediated
*I I try to access this machine via wmicmgmt.msc I receive "no instances found"
*I also tried 'wmic /node:ipaddress /user:Domain\Administrator service list brief' but received 'access denied'
*I also rebuild the WMI repository but the issue persisted.

I have been able to workaround this issue by installing my app on the local domain but feel I should not have to do this. As I stated above all XP machines work fine. WMI connects with out issue when trying the connection from the local domain.

There has to be some sort of security setting getting me here. I am just not sure what. I was thinking of installing Wireshark to see if I could any additional information but wanted to post here first.

I appreciate any suggestions that any of you may have. Thanks

Check the registry DWORD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM\AllowAnonymousCallback, and make sure it's set to 1.

EDIT: (On the Vista machines you're trying to connect to.)
