Start here...is the printer a networked printer attached with a ethernet cable or is the printer connected to another computer directly and you wish to "share" the printer. Get into Network and Sharing Centre, if you wish to share this printer make sure under the "adavnced Sharing Settings....you have network discovery turned on as well, turn on file and printer sharing. Also scrolling down on the advanced sharing....you should select whether you want password protected sharing or not. For sharing you must be a member of the same "workgroup", which is by default in Vista, XP Pro & Windows 7 called Workgroup. However ever Windows Home use "MSHOME" by default. You can call the workgroup anything but they must be the same on all the computers you wish to share. File and print sharing has to be turned on, on the computer hosting the printer. For sharing the printer only; the computer the printer is attached to must be turned on, which is not the case for a networked printer.......networking the printer is the best way to have the printer if possible.....most important is know which you are attempting?
