Tried to connect a laptop running Vista Home Basic to an Orange Livebox wireless router and it won't work. I'm told by Toshiba that this router will not yet work wirelessly with Vista. Nor does the wireless router that BTInternet supply work wirelessly with Vista (both these do work with Ethernet cable). I also note that someone couldn't connect a Belkin F5D6231-4 (802.11 b) (see here: http://www.computing.net/windowsvis...

On this page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pr...
MSoft say: "The most important first step is to choose a wireless router that is Certified for Windows Vista. Look for the Certified for Windows Vista logo to ensure a wireless router is Certified for Windows Vista. These routers offer the most reliable performance for streaming your entertainment and also enable easier setup and maintenance. When you see this logo, you can be assured that the wireless router has been specifically tested to work with Windows Media Center Extenders. The presence of the logo also eliminates the challenge of trying to interpret sometimes confusing claims and specifications from routers that are not certified. All wireless routers that are Certified for Windows Vista support dual-band wireless networking. This means that the router operates at two different frequencies—the standard 2.4-GHz frequency and, all-important for video and TV, the 5-GHz frequency...... etc etc"

So please, does anyone know which wireless routers work wirelessly with Vista?

Thanks

I have a Linksys wireless router WRT54G which is several years old.

My laptop has Vista Home Premium installed and I have no problems with my router. Connects to the internet and is also networked to both of my XP desktop pc's.

Routers are not O/S specific, I have used older router/wifi card on Vista without problems.

It is more than likely your WiFi Card which is either incompatable or misconfigured.

No, I don't think it's the card. It's a new card in a new laptop. It's something to do with the wireless router, the "Livebox" supplied by my ISP, which is Orange. Orange say: "Windows Vista™ - Livebox wired connection is currently compatible but wireless is not compatible with Vista. We are working towards fully supporting Vista".

Useful to know that there are many routers that DO work with Vista. Anyone else got any experience with this?

Had no problems getting connected thought my linksys wireless router. Well.. Slight problems, but that was me, not the OS or the router. I was also able to connect to the wireless network at work that uses a linksys router without a problem.

Forgot to mention both routers are well over a year old.

"Windows Vista™ - Livebox wired connection is currently compatible but wireless is not compatible with Vista. We are working towards fully supporting Vista"

Since the router is provided by Orange, since they inform the users of the compatibility problem and since they are trying to fix it, wait until they fix it.

if there was a solution for the problem, Orange would have found it already. similar to you they must have other customers with the same problem. sooner or later they will find a solution and give to the customers. they will not want to loose customers so they will find a solution.

even if they don't find a solution they will switch to a router that supports vista and replace existing ones.

if i was you, i would wait for a solution and use the cable in the meantime. i would not want to start playing with something that is not mine and risk the possibility of doing something that will stop the router or pc from working and having to pay to fix it.
