First, have your incoming connection (DSL or Cable connect to the modem. Then connect the modem to your router. To set up the wireless connection ideally you'll hardwire your laptop to the router. After you have your Local Area Connection set up then call Netgear's tech support to help guide you through the rest of the Wireless Connection setup. You'll also want to secure your wireless network so someone driving by can't connect to your network and either piggyback and get on the web, or get access to your laptop or other computer on your home network.
