I have a problem with a new laptop. Running Home Premium Vista. I can connect to my network/internet and stay connected forever if I use a WIRED connection. When using the wireless I connect and after about 5 - 10 minutes it will disconnect and if I try to connect again it says it can't. If I log out and baack on it works fine for another 5-10 minutes then it repeates the process. I have two other XP machines on the same wireless and an OSX machine as well. None of the other machines ever drop the signal like this. Its only the vista machine. It is not just my network either. I took it to my in-laws this weekend and it would do the same thing with their wireless all the while another XP laptop would stay connected.
Any ideas?

It could be related to Vista's default 802.11 authentication. Not all wireless routers / access points support it. You can try this:1. Open up Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet, click Network and Sharing Center, and then click Manage network connections.
3. Right-click the network that you want to disable 802.1X authentication for, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Security tab, and then, in the Security Type list, click No authentication (Open). Click OK.

I have been working on a solution for this for about 2 weeks and have not been successful. My Vista internet connection drops after about 30 minutes, and I can only reconnect after restarting the laptop (other XP wireless and wired connections never drop on same router). It does not drop
the local connection, only the internet leg.
So far I have tried:
1) disabling TCP/IPv6
2) editing registry to add DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle (1) to Hkey_Local_Machine\System\currentcontrolset\
services\tcpip\parameters\interfaces\{}
3) disabling router security & switching from
WEP to WPA
4) Disabling DCHP on each computer & router
& setting up IPs manually
5) Disabling all firewalls
Each of these tips were found on the web,
but none have fixed the problem. I am
convinced it is dropping due to a timing
setting somewhere in the registry, so I am
concentrating on looking there. Good luck.

I just got a range extender for my wireless so that it gets a better signal and it works fine. I guess vista is picky with moderate signal strength.
