I recently came upon some troubles from trying to uninstall the ATI multimedia console, Well , I popped in the vista disk and decided to try and see what could be done,

After choosing the boot from the DVD I came upon a screen that said

Windows (ems enabled )

Pressed , Enter , And was then taken to another screen that I thought would just enable me to reinstall, ( didn't really want to )

Well I wasn't documenting at the time, But anyway after choosing the partition to Install I was given , Install or Repair,

Tried Repair, Taken to a screen that gave Me 5 Options
1) System Repair
2)Sytem Restore
3)Complete PC Restore
4)Windows Memory Diagnostics
5)Command Prompt

I chose the system restore and a Screen with available restore points was shown and I chose the earliest one I could,

Worked , Excellent, !!!

A few more tools in the Repair Process or the emergency repair , of windows. ( Nice Features ! )

Hope I haven't violated any EULA here, !!!

In a previous post I described how I was trying to do an upgrade. I know I can do a fresh install but that is another story. I deliberately trashed the installation and then booted from the dvd. It gave me the same options but it had NOT created a system restore point. I also tried a system repair but it would NOT recognize the previious installation. Back to square 1.

bummer,,, The only reason for me to believe there was a restore point was the Update after installation... Mine was a fresh install, on a seperate hard drive,

Hadn't deliberately trashed the install, However, I did get the BSOD ! and that was just from the ATI driver and Multimedia console Uninstallation, that Crashed and Hosed the system,,,

I was just amazed that it did work for me and that without even taking that long 1 hr. from time of crash to reboot into the restored system,,, I was back with a workable system,,,

Sorry to hear you had some problems,,, That didn't work out,

Someone on the vista newsgroup server site, made a suggestion that I may have to try for that graphics card , ( currently would rather keep the GEForce 6600 _)

" here "

And I may have to try it,,, Involves Disabling the UAP ? ( universal account Protection ) from MSCONFIG , and deleting a program file directories files and a couple of DLL's Will let you all know If I try it,,,

My problem was I could get the upgrade done but no matter what i disabled or shut down in services I had 100% cpu usage unless I booted in the safe mode. Who the hell wants to run in the safe mode for the rest of your life? LOL!!
BTW-I really don't care if I get it going as I would never use a Beta as an everyday O/S.:>)

I never had any severe issues with Vista, but then again I've been messing with it since the pre-Longhorn era.

That's been Awhile ! Haven't tried the Longhorn versions, Would've liked to have in some ways but, Time, Doing other things at the time and no , real , time to mess with trying to get it and use it,

Supposedly has changed somewhat with the " WinFS ? " file system, Just checked and the file system is still NTFS > Maybe they'll figure a different way to do it in the next version ,,,

Yeh, I too was playing with the Pre-longhorn and was busted by MS for using a downloaded illegal version. The Attorney general contacted me and threatened legal action. Needless to say I backed off, WAY OFF!! LOL!!
I personally feel it won't be of any use to the individual user over XP other than create new forums and a whole new industry for the Geek Squad and other predators.

" playing with the Pre-longhorn and was busted by MS " Ouch!!!

thing I feel about it is on most systems without the right Hardware, Graphicss card , SATA raid , And , ( at least, ) a gig of ram, It'll be tooooo Slow Performance wise, The Aero glass interface is Nice eye candy But the performance suffers from it,

With the Other graphics card the performance was slower , and the visual effects were jnst not quite able to come up quick enough and the cpu cycles would suffer,

Takes a high end system to even run the visual effects ,,

As far as secure ? Only time will tell there, SP1 ? ( Wonder How Long ? )

I'm currently looking into learning more on Linux also, and Have a long way to go ....

I still think it's an amazing accomplishment that has taken boatloads of work, to get to where it is, GUI's for almost everthing ,,,
