Subject: win.ini file not saving in VistaOS: Vista HomeCPU/Ram: core2duo 1.8ghzModel/Manufacturer: emachines |
Comment: Hi, Ive recently tried opening the win.ini file in Vista and erasing the "garbage" and "junk" files that are saved there and when i replace or save as a blank file it keeps telling me i cannot create that file. Its already created isnt it? When i try to replace with a blank page it tells me i cant. So, my question is. How do i save the win.ini file as a blank page? In XP u can do it with no problem what so ever. Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Why do you want to erase the contents Win.ini? In my experience, there should only be 7 or 8 lines there in Vista's win.ini and they are for compatibility with older applications. Is there any particular reason you want or need a blank win.ini?

Reply: (edit)Perhaps if you tell us what led you to want to modify the win.ini file, we may be able to help you better. Your original post gave us no clues. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)Alright, I'll give my shot in the dark here ... I guess you are trying to tweak a 16-bit based game program to suddenly work in Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit system, correct? i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)The reason i wanted to make the file blank was because of my experiences with XP is that "junk","garbage", and unwanted files store them self here because its a system start-up file. I took a back-up of the files on Vista already just incase i needed to use them but i dont think i will anyway. But i did figure it out. In xp in the run box if u simply typed the win.ini file it would allow u to edit from there and save it. In vista the only why to edit is to pull up the sysedit files via run box and its free to edit and add/remove all files. But thanks anyway for reading my post. :)
