Reply: (edit)There are more than just "several" - not only for Vista but XP too. See the list below so you know what to expect. Among them are the two long waited reliability/performance pack (KB 938194) and the compatibility and stability pack (KB 938979). http://www.winbeta.org/comments.php... I guess the new management under Ozzie at M$ is moving away from the traditional second Tuesday of the month patch without the usual advanced notices. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)I installed the reliability and stability updates weeks ago by manually downloading them and also recommended the same here. That's why I omitted them in my post. Regards SuatCINI

Reply: (edit)1gb big?? How long is that going to take to install, a couple of hours to set there and wait for the service pack to get installed, and from what I read it is not going to be to much of a major update to the os system. Just a few features and a little bit of tweaks, make no sense. Jim R

Reply: (edit)I'm hoping M$ will be as generous as they were when they first distributed the XP SP2 CD for free. Time will tell. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)Forget about my previous post 5. The news omitted further details provided by M$ VP for the Windows Core Operating System division. In today press interview, the VP is quoted as stating that the first measure of “size” most people will encounter will likely be the download of Windows Vista SP1 through Windows Update or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), which we predict will be about 50 MB. Reply: (edit)PC Magazines may well be distributing the Vista SP1 DVD disk of 1 GB size after SP1 gets released. Besides, the web download is said to be 50 MB and SP1 1 GB. Till now I have gotten Vista updates about 101 MB in total. So how compare ? Regards SuatCINI

Reply: (edit)No that's not it. As M$ VP explained in the PressPass article, there will be two Vista SP1 patches - 50MB for us, and 1GB standalone image for IT Pro that do not use distribution tools like WSUS. The 1GB will have all of the localized language resources for 36 languages for worldwide installation - something that you don't need. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)M$ needs to get a better grip on how these Vista updates are being package & distributed. Here lately, there has been quite a stir surrounding the number of updates that are lingering out there & which is applicable for what. This is of course not mentioning the fact that some of those updates are actually creating more problems than they are supposed to fix.
