Does your dvd player work with other dvd's? What operating system are you currently using? you have Vista listed as the operating system and say, "I recently purchased windows vista home basic svc pk 1" Do you mean you just got the service pack or complete Vista system. If you have XP and trying to install Vista is it an OEM version or an upgrade dvd. This will make a difference as to how it needs to be installed. If the drive indeed does not work with any dvd, it's faulty and needs replacing, they are not very expensive and easy to replace.
