Hi to all,

I can't have regular Windows Update or Microsoft Update facilities work on my laptop : only the standard VISTA panel which does not propose me to install VISTA SP1 for instance.

When I try to launch directly Microsoft Update or Windows Update, I get exotic error codes like 0x80070002 or I am told that I am not an administrator, which is wrong.

Solutîons proposed in the KB never apply to VISTA (at least the ones I checked).

Any ideas (and ideally solution...) most welcome.

Thanks in advance - Claude

Vista SP1 can be downloaded and then installed instead of using the update. For some reason, it's larger than the update version.

As far as the administrator thing goes, the true administrator account in Vista is not running. The following is a recent quote from a post here by sabertooth.

- Click Start & type "cmd" in the search area, right click on "Command Prompt" & select 'Run as Administrator".

- In the command prompt type "net users Administrator /active:yes" & press Enter, you will get a confirmation as "The command completed successfully" ... see below!

- Click Start & type "regedit" in the search area and click Enter, navigate to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
Double click on "FilterAdministratorToken" and set it to "0"

Log off & login with newly available account named "Administrator"

Hi guapo and Sibertooth,

Further to your well documented inputs, I just inform you that after applying all important and recommended updates for VISTA, I am now proposed to install SP1.

So, I think I don't really need to access the standard Windows Update panel, which will never work so far as I could guess, As VISTA Home does not allow to manage User groups.

Still many thanks to you both - Claude
