Got a message that my memory might be bad so I found that Vista has a built in Memory Diagnostic Tool. I ran the test and thankfully my Ram is fine. NOw the problem is that I have an icon in my tray for the tool. When you pass over it, it shows the name of the tool but if you click (or even right click) on the tool nothing happens. How can I get rid of this tray icon. I've gone to msconfig and there is no mention of it. That has been how I've removed icons from the tray before. I located it when I did a search. It is listed as a shortcut but I can't delete it. I don't want to delete the program but I sure would like to see the "useless" icon in the tray gone.
Any ideas would sure be appreciate.

This icon always comes up after a Windows mem test, but usually disappears after telling you of no problems.
If you want to hide it, go into the properties of the taskbar, and customize the "hide inactive icons" section to see if you can hide it there.

Thanks guys! I ran the test again and hit "escape" a couple of times to let the program know I was finished testing. After restarting the icon in the tray was gone. I wouldn't care to have it there but it did nothing. If you right or left clicked on the icon it did absolutely nothing.
I'm glad it is gone as it does nothing to assist the user.

Not true. There will be a diagnostic log waiting for you to read - only when problems have been detected. You have to click on the WMDT icon in the systray to see it. Once you open it the icon then disappear until you run WMDT again.

XP User,
I tried clicking on the icon and it just sat there. It didn't disappear" in fact it did nothing. I do understand that there is a diagnostic log (I read mine) but after that the icon did not go away. Unless my eyes are deceiving me by seeing something that "disappeared"

You either didn't run WMDT the way it is supposed to be ran or you may have some underlying problems that prevented the icon from disappearing. The best I can do is suggest that you go HERE. BTW WMDT is a standalone utility with no dependency on the type of OS (i.e., XP, Vista, etc)
