When I receive an email with photo files (.jpg) as attachments, they are listed in the top area of the message. But they are also automatically opened and displayed in the body of the message in maximized form. How can I prevent Windows Mail to automatically open these files? It doesn't do that with any other file attachments.

"Disable Inline Display of Image Attachments in Windows Mail
To prevent Windows Mail from displaying attached pictures in the message:
* Make sure Windows Mail is not running.
* Press Windows-R.* Type "regedit" (without quotation).
* Click OK.* Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail
* Select Edit | New | DWORD (32-bit) Value from the menu.
* Type "Automatically Inline Images" (again excluding the quotation marks).* Press Enter.
* Verify the Data column of Automatically Inline Images says 0x00000000 (0).-- If it does not, or if you already had an Automatically Inline Images key,
-- double click Automatically Inline Images,-- type "0" (not including the quotation marks) under Value data: and
-- click OK.* Close the Registry Editor.
* Launch Windows Mail."Windows Mail Tips, Tricks and Secrets
Oh & BTW, Windows Live Mail (WLM) is Windows Mail's successor in case you are interested.

Thanks Sabertooth for your tip; followed your instructions but unfortunately the photos still show in the messages as before.

Windows Live Mail did not supplant Hotmail -- there's Windows Live Mail & there's also Windows Live Hotmail.
