When I log on, explorer does not start and I have to boot it manually in Task Manager. How can I can I force explorer to boot on startup?

If the Windows Explorer shell isn't loading upon startup, then you've got bigger issues you need to look into than simply telling it to load. I'd suggest that you back up the machine, wipe it and reinstall. Make sure you've got the correct drivers installed for your system too...
