My hard disc is partitioned C and D, D being the operating system. I have been using the built in backup to backup on an external hard drive. It seems to be working, had to use it once. My problem is that D: is getting full and the status bar has turned red. Are my backups also going there, maybe when it creates a shadow copy?

I believe you have the drive information juxtapositioned. Like all other OEM PCs such as HP, Sony, and Toshiba, your operating system is running from drive C on your Compaq Presario SR5350F Desktop PC. In addition, the recovery image is stored on drive D.
In addition, it is never a good idea to store anything on the recovery partition. Doing so can cause the recovery to stop functioning.

Buy an external drive and store your backups there. Very simple and cost effective.
Also get yourself a good backup program. The built in backup is a slug. Look at Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost. Macrium Reflect comes in free or paid versions. Google for more.

Thanks for the replies. I am using an external drive for the backups, using the built in backup program. The problem is, it does go to the external but D: is also filling up. Sorry if I didn't explain it right.

I think xpuser is right.
But, for some reason, the inbult back up is saving files to D
as well as the external drive.Note, there is a difference between backup & drive imaging.
I suggest you use a drive imaging program like terii
mentioned, but also use a backup program like gfi free to
backup specific files & folders to an external drive.UK MP's are thieving scumbags.
EU members are worse.
