Comment: Hi Guys!! We have a peer-peer network here. Some of the computers has windows 98 installed and some has vista on it. We dont have any server here. Now my problem is, why are my windows 98 workstation cant reach windows vista?Windows 98 PC can see the vista computer but cant access the shared files. The error was "You dont have permission blah.. blah.. blah.." it's something to that effect. is this a known issue??

Reply: (edit)The error was "You dont have permission blah.. blah.. blah.." it's something to that effect. It's the critical missing piece here. All I can think of is that you may need to enable NTLM 2 support for the 98 machines in order for it to access and share files on Vista machines. The following link explain how to do it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239869 BTW NTLM 2 is an authentication protocol that is used for file and printer sharing connections, and by default, Windows Vista is configured to use NTLM 2, whereas Win 98 isn't. Hence the problems of file sharing between these two Windows generations. i_Xp/VistaUser
