Subject: Window XP installation error
OS: vista home premium
CPU/Ram: quad core 2.66/4gigs ddr2
Model/Manufacturer: HP M9250F
Comment:

I have 2x500gig sata hard drives one with Vista home premium 64bit (500 gig) and another hard drive that is partitioned in 2 x 250gigs. I am trying to install windows xp 64 bit and I encounter this error during the installation process.
Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass sorage devices installed in your system or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter.
Currently , setup will load support for the following mass storage devices. <None>
After this any option I choose gives me a partial install with blue screen of death.
I am trying to determine how do I get the xp installation to detect my 2x sata 500 gig hard drives.

Is anyone familiar with this problem.

Thanks guys I came here because I know that you guys know your stuff on these forums.

If you have a floppy drive, have it ready with the SATA drivers on it. After you boot to Windows XP CD ( BIOS must be configured to boot fom CD-ROM drive, otherwise it may try to boot from floppy ), it will ask you if you want to install drivers. Just at this point press F6 and show the drivers on the floppy.

Hope the above helps.

There should be a setting in your system BIOS that allow your disks to operate in IDE mode, check it out.

Another alternative is to download nLite and create another bootable XP installation CD with your SATA drivers slipstreamed into it... actually you could slipstream all of your chipset drivers into the new installation CD to save doing it later.

Excellent tutorial below:
