will my computer run windows vista with aero and all it's capabilities very well?

Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 1MB L2 Cache
2GB DDR400 dual channel
36GB Raptor Drive
80GB Western Digital IDE
128MB 6600GT OC (525/1050)
DVD/CD-RW

the cpu is socket 478, so i am not sure whther it is considered a "modern" cpu.

Custom Build:
Pentium 4 3.0GHz 1MB L2
2GB DDR400 RAM
36GB Raptor / 80GB IDE
DVD+/-RW CDRW DVD-RAM

Hello.

Your PC will run Vista just fine.

Most probably your PC will get 4 points or close to 4 points credit from Vista. For your info, Vista has an evaluation system for the PC on which it is installed. And 4 points is good.
