Why won't computer do a backup?

Hewlett-packard / C731tu
January 1, 2011 at 14:26:55
Specs: Windows Vista, 1.86 1.5GB.
HP c731tu won't back up to dvd,cd or external hard drive. It did when it was new,(to cd) so it should still know what to do. If I use a dvd, all it does is try to create a shadow copy, then green line goes red, and it tells me insufficient space on disk, and backup failed. It's wrong, but it manages to render the disk unusable. if I try to reuse the disk, it says contains previous backup. Another lie. How do I get it to behave and stop telling porkies?

If you are using the HP utility to make a backup of the system restore, you can only use this once. While you can make copies of the disks you created you can't use it again.
If you want to make a backup of your files you can use the Vista Easy transfer Wizard.
If you want an image of your hard drive you will need a third party tool. CloneZilla is free. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/...
