Subject: Why can't I download files (Zipped)
OS: Vista
CPU/Ram: 2.5 Gig
Model/Manufacturer: Custom
Comment:

Every since I installed Vista Per. ver. on my PC, I can not download zipped files (~ 500-600 MB).
Do I need to turn off NAV? or other security(s) are stopping the process?
Hope one of you good guys can help me out.

Thanks

Please explain what you mean by "I can not download zipped files." Do any error messages appear? Does nothing happen? Are the downloads incomplete?

Odd. Try this, but keep in mind that you will lose your browsing history as well as AutoComplete data and AutoComplete passwords.

In IE, go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click Reset. On the box that appears, click Reset. Restart IE.

Norton is known to cause problems. You might want to uninstall it. But you will need to download the Norton Removal Tool to do that.

But I need an ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE!!! Right? and then I have to re-install, and my software needs to be verified by Norton, and since I have used my key > once, they will not re-issue a key again. Am I missing something here?
Thanks

Ok calm down (lol). Of course you need anti-virus software. But Norton ISN'T the only antivirus software. There are free ones that beat Norton to a pulp (Avast for example). Just ask XPUser4Real (a frequent here on CN), he'll tell you!

Norton causes problems. That's why I stay away from it.

I don't know for sure, and I can't promise you anything. But NAV is a very robust program. It hogs more than needed resources. I have seen more and more computer problems that have occurred because of some problem with Norton. It's a shot in the dark.

If you don't want to uninstall NAV, that's fine I understand. It probably takes forever to install anyway. But I still highly suspect it as being the culprit.

What firewall are you using (if any)?

Try closing all system tray applications and try it again.

Also, what is the exact error message that you're getting? I couldn't find the message you specified on Google.

I am not using any other security software than Norton. The exact message says that the operation failed. This comes up after 30-45 min. Maybe my ISP is the problem!!! Maybe the size is the problem...Maybe I need to just forget it...I am not getting anywhere and I think I am waisting your time too.
Thanks

No you're fine, you're not waisting my time in the least. I'm VERY GLAD to help you. I'm just running out of ideas. You could try to run Internet Explorer without add-ons by going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No add-ons).

Another option would be to download a different browser such as Firefox or Opera. Another idea is to download IE7Pro which is an IE plug-in that has a very nice download manager called MiniDM. Perhaps it would allow you to work around your problem. It also has features such as a flash and AD blocker. You can get it at http://www.ie7pro.com.

The Firefox did not work either. IE7Pro worked a bit, but did not finish the download; it died after 56% of completion. I am down grading to XP Pro. Forget about Vista. Took Microsoft 8 years to give us this.
Thanks
