I have Windows Vista and IE 9 on my laptop. In the past I could add websites, but something has changed. I've reinstalled IE 9, but doesn't help.

Leave the Best Answer for now, it's early days so there might be a better one.
EDIT: But I note that it is another issue you are having.

Go here (blue download icon top right) and Save the file somewhere:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...

Find the downloaded file and double click on it, then run the Scan. There are options but it is usually safe to run the Clean. If it finds anything please copy and paste the log on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What happens when you try and add the site to your Favorites?

Nothing happens. I right-click to open a drop down, then click Add to Favorites. In the past the next box asks to add to a folder or Favorites in general. That doesn't happen now. There is a hesitation then I get my pointer again.

I had that exact problem with IE 8 on XP. Seemed more likely to happen the longer I had the computer on so I thought it might be a ram issue (the XP only had 384 meg of ram) as that causes the swap file to bulk up. You also may need to clear out TIF and history files too. Anyway, it's not doing it now so I can't say for sure what exactly fixed it.

Try IE Reset:
IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button.

I appreciate that you have re-installed IE but it might have just overwritten it leaving something untoward in place.

Derek,
Thanks, I tried your suggestion on how to reset IE. Its very similar to what I used previously. Still no difference in my original problem.

Also, I tried to mark your comment as Best Anwser but that dosen't work either.

Most of that listed is stuff that came along with freebies. Always uncheck unwanted goodies (sometimes only seen by using Custom Install). Even then some can creep through.

If you downloaded regclean pro intentionally, then keep it off your computer. Registry cleaners cause more troubles than they are worth. CCleaner's is the safest one but I've even known that remove stuff it should not.

I think you ought to at least run MalwareBytes because it is likely to unearth more stuff and fix it (green download button top right):
http://filehippo.com/download_malwa...

Paste the log if you wish. None of this means your system is guaranteed clean (we'd need to go much further) but at least you can have more confidence.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
