Apparently Micro$oft has yanked RC2 & put RC1 back up for download. I don't know if it was because of problems with RC2 or if it was just a limited time only offer....

They didn't yanked it - the RC2 is made available only to the subscribers and members of TechBeta, TechNet, TAP and MSDN. None for the general public.

XpUser,

Windows Vista RC2 was indeed available via Customer Preview Program (CPP) participation and that is inclusive of any one from the general public that has access to the now defunct link.

BTW, I had a torrent link up for Pistal and it seems to have vanished...........hmmmmmm???

I would not have imagined a CPP delivered program going against the rules, oh well - now I know better.

That was then at the beginning of RC2 release.

Someone in Redmond under the management of the current executives made a mistake with its release. MS then silently pulled it.

I don't think it matters any more ... they are losing grip of what they are doing. HERE is the latest example. We ought to be on guard with anything coming out from Redmond.

Actually I was a little surprised by the RC2 CPP deal since M$ categorically stated that they were only doing beta testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and a random, limited selection of Consumer Preview Program (CPP) members with this build.

But then again I though oh well, maybe random simply implied the first limited group of between 50,000 and 100,000 testers that got in on the download.

Afterall the same M$ was adamant there wasn't going to be an RC2 to begin with ;-)

I sympathize with you. Oh another M$ screwup is the management gave MVP honors to a known Adware Spreader only to have it pulled back days later. Idiot.

Well thank you I thought I was going CRAZY, with the problems I was having I did get both of them to start RC1 and RC2 but then they both stopped at 7 or ten MB, wonder if that was a lot of my problem? Well I wiped it clean downloaded Mazola, I already use Crap cleaner so was going to try it again but could not fine the RC2 now I know why, I did get a email and a license number to activate it and it said it was good for RC1 or RC2 Lucky I wrote it down, I got so mad I deleted it from my email, will let you know if I can get it now, although maybe one of you guys will also try downloading it again just to see if it is working, then stop it at 20 MB and delete it, maybe that is not working either??, will let you know its is just strange my download is usually real fast and like I said before I downloaded 2 programs 25 mb each in just a few min so I know my machine is working right.

Thanks for the continous feedback.

I figured the download should be about 4 hours based on your connection and at least you know to use FireFox and not IE for this type of download in the future.

Still miffed why IE failed to work though.

"Blink And You Missed It: Vista RC2 Download Closed"

Left-out users were irked that Microsoft Windows Vista Release Candidate 2 was only available for a short time.

As promised, Microsoft opened its newest build of Windows Vista to public downloading, but the short time that Release Candidate 2 (RC2) was available irked left-out users.

Friday, Microsoft unveiled Vista RC2 (build 5744) to select testers, saying that it would be the last interim release before the operating system was released to manufacturing. That day, Nick White, a program manager with the Vista launch group, said that participants in the Customer Preview Program (CPP) would also be given the chance to download the new code.

They were, beginning Friday night.

But on Monday morning Microsoft turned off the spigot, a move that distressed users who were too late or had only downloaded part of the massive .iso file.

"I got the download started, then it got interrupted right before it finished. Now the links don't work. Not fair," wrote someone identified as "Gary96LT4" on the Vista group's blog.

"Definitely a too short of a download window, only get notification of the rc2 release last nite [sic], now it's to [sic] late to download," wrote "Britedj." another blog commenter. "I feel like i have been cheated out of the update process."

Links on the blog which purport to take users to RC2 downloads instead redirect to the Windows Vista Web site, where only RC1 is available.
