Reply: (edit)If you had XP and then upgraded or tried a dual boot then Vista made a backup of it. Vista uses a new system. I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Reply: (edit)Vista doesn't use the boot.ini file. There is a Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store that contains boot configuration parameters and controls how the operating system is started. However, you can do a dual boot by installing VistaBootPRO in XP. It works well and then you don't have to find the files you were looking for. One place to get it is: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fi...

Reply: (edit)Where is my BOOT.INI under Vista? If you are thinking of installing XP after Vista, be aware that your Vista may no longer start in a dual boot environment. THIS MSKB explain why this scenario may or may not affect your PC. It is your call. Personally I will never dual boot on an OEM PC with Vista preinstalled. Why? In the event something goes wrong, you would find you have to have native Vista installation DVDs because your Acer Recovery DVDs will no longer work in a multi-partitioned, multiboot environment. i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)Consider keeping the Vista and load up a virtual machine application if you only need xp for a few things. The files are loaded when you install XP. Otherwise they are on a XP disk either compressed or not. I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
