What the hell is going on with Vista....
I drag an MP3 from the F: drive onto my desktop, it says nothing, doesn't show the icon and then if you go to C:/users/mike/desktop the damn files is sitting there fine.. Can anyone explain this?...

Not surprising at all. It's a brand new operating system and there are bound to be snafu's.
Welcome to Vista.....

I have experienced a couple of quirks with Vista myself, so I'm not eager to dismiss this as a PEBKAC issue - an example is the unexplained & unprovoked albeit intermittent loss of right-click ability that seem to be connected with IE, but nothing remotely similar to what you described, so I don't know what to tell ya.
Here is an idea, go into safemode & see if you are able to replicate the issue.

Other quirks I've found with Vista are:
* Taking stupidly long to extract files, however big or small, from Winzip.
* Not being able to click on links in Windows Live Messenger - works fine in XP.
* Deleting/Moving/Copying single files sometimes done in an instant (a la XP) - sometimes sits there for 2 minutes.
* Sometimes selecting files in "open" dialog boxes and pressing OK to select results in the dialog box freezing, with all the buttons dimmed - you have to select it again to get the file you want (doesn't really make sense, but then it's hard to explain)
Anyway back to your issue, when you drag the file to the desktop and nothing appears, what happens if you refresh the desktop? Does it show up then?

* Taking stupidly long to extract files, however big or small, from Winzip.
I have that problem with XP's own extraction program.
