I'm having the weirdest problem with Vista. After saving jpegs from CS2, I move the folder across the LAN to a shared folder on an XP Pro machine. When I reboot the XP Pro machine, the jpegs appear corrupt - no embedded preview on some of them and none of them will open. Weirdly, if copy the folder out of the shared directory and onto the desktop of the XP Pro machine, those files appear to remain undamaged. Existing jpegs in the shared directory appear unaffected.

I've duplicated this problem copying files to a 2nd XP Pro machine, so the issue would appear to originate with the Vista box - either during creation of the jpegs or during transfer. I can't see why it only manifests after a reboot of the XP Pro machine though. All the PCs appear to be free from viruses and/or malware. I'm totally puzzled by this one.

One last bit of info - last time I copied a folder of jpegs to the XP Pro machine, I then dragged and copied it to that machines desktop. I noticed after reboot that although both folders contained the same number of files, the folder of corrupted jpegs in the shared directory appeared slightly larger.

not a solution, but it seems you're not the only one "trapped in Vista network folder hell"

Yeah, I saw that article. So far it only seems to be jpegs that are affected though. I'm wondering if it's something to do with CS2. The whole thing's a complete mystery to me - it just doesn't seem to make any sense! How can a previously perfect jpeg spontaneously corrupt itself upon reboot of the xp box when the vista box is powered down? And why just shared folders? Why does moving jpegs out of a shared folder seem to protect them? I've never seen anything this odd!

I am having a similar problem, and its driving me crazy. Whenever I copy over any database files from my Vista to my xp computer, it appears that everything worked fine, i.e. if I open the program in the xp machine, the program opens normally, and everything is updated. However, as soon as I reboot, all of the updated filed that had been copied become corrupted. It just seems to happen on programs with datebase files. (I haven't tried copying any image files yet) Both machines use NTFS file system.

I am very happy to report that I finally determined that the problem was caused by my CA Security Suite anti virus program. After uninstalling that program, I am now able to copy files from my vista to xp machine with no problem.
