"What is the Windows Experience Index?

The Windows Experience Index measures the capability of your computer's hardware and software configuration and expresses this measurement as a number called a base score.

A higher base score generally means that your computer will perform better and faster than a computer with a lower base score, especially when performing more advanced and resource-intensive tasks.

Each hardware component receives an individual subscore. Your computer's base score is determined by the lowest subscore.

For example, if the lowest subscore of an individual hardware component is 2.6, then the base score is 2.6. The base score is not an average of the combined subscores.

You can use the base score to confidently buy programs and other software that are matched to your computer's base score.

For example, if your computer has a base score of 3.3, then you can confidently purchase any software designed for this version of Windows that requires a computer with a base score of 3 or lower."

FYI - the highest individual hardware component score is 5.9

i dont think u get what i mean the scoring system i understand. what i dont get is fact that the gaming graphics is at 4.9 for my graphics card it should be higher like my firend he has same graphics card and it is saying 5.9 but mines 4.9 i get 5.8 on cpu 5.3 on ram (which i will be changing) and 5.9 on graphics 4.9 on gaming graphics which is the one i dont get is so low for the card and harddrive i get 5.9 so my system score is 4.9 but should be 5.3 as the ram is needing upgrading but i dont feel the graphics car does as on m8s pc its 5.9 im so tired im probly not making much sense lol

FYI. Unless your friend has exactly the same & I mean an identical machine you can't use that logic, let alone a situation where the all you've got common to both machines is the graphics card.

I am sure, the gaming graphics score being at 4.9 is not solely based on the card, if that was the case, you both shouldn't be getting 5.9 since your cards are no way near the fastest graphics card on the market - go figure! Furthermore those scores are hackable & I have seen people with crappy system boasting 5.9 on all the scores, so talk about some boondoggling - huh!

Dude you have a X64 edition of Vista so of course the final rating is going to be lower then on a X86 version of Vista, because X64 demands more preformance then X86.

Case in point. I have 2gb of ram. My ram was rated higher on Vista X86 then it was on Vista X64 the reason for that being is the X64 version ideal of ram is 4gb where as the X86 ideal version is 2gb.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0+1
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI
