My Kodak EasyShare camera worked fine with Vista until recently. I reinstalled the software but Windows couldn't install a new driver. I downloaded the software package from Kodak and, at least now my camera is listed in Device Manager, but I still can't download pictures to my computer. My Kodak program tells me no device is detected. I tried different USB ports but with no luck. I also have Picasa and it does not detect any device either.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong or how to fix it? Thanks so much.

... as it's listed in device manager
... via device manager try "update driver"
. while connected to internet

Hi mavis 007: Thanks for the quick reply. I tried that, but it tells me the driver software is up to date. I tried it again, just in case, but I get the same message. When I click the camera in Device Manager, the first message I get is: This device cannot start. Check for solutions - which I do, but I'm told there is no solution.
I also inserted my install cd and had it Repair the installation, but my camera is still not recognized.
When I first plugged in the camera, Windows kept trying to download a new driver, but it failed each time. After downloading the latest software from Kodak, I no longer get that message, so that should mean I have the latest driver, no?
This is driving me nuts! Thanks again.

... ok ya maybe the problem is@ the other end of the wire?
... have you tried turning the switch on the camera to OFF from VCR etc?
... worth trying hotswaping the (unplug/replug)usb while selecting different
switches.got brain freeze
... wat do I know?

I'm sorry Mavis, I don't understand what you're suggesting. If I turn the camera OFF, absolutely nothing happens. At least when it's turned on Windows recognizes it and tries to update the driver.
Hotswapping the usb??? What is that? I have tried it in different ports, and that didn't help either.
Last night I uninstalled everything and started from scratch. Windows again couldn't install a driver. I downloaded the latest software from Kodak and somehow I'm back to square one. Windows is STILL trying to install a driver. I went through Add/Remove program in Windows and tried Repair - no luck. It still won't work and Windows is still looking for a new driver. This is a nightmare! Especially because it was working fine before.
BTW, I don't know if it helps, but my model is Kodak EasyShare C643.
Thanks again.

... try putting in new batteries.
... hmmm some usb transfer camera's use the power from the PC via usb, yours dos'nt.
... some have a dial type switch to turn for the transfer data to pc function.
yours just needs to be turned on and I guess a "drive icon" appears to access the pics.
got brain freeze
... wat do I know?

You are amazing, Mavis, for sticking by me for so long. Unfortunately, the links you posted are for the exact software that I already downloaded from Kodak. It's still not working. I was, however, able to email Kodak tonight. I'm just hoping I get an answer AND a solution. Thanks again.
