Hi everyone, have a little problem and just cant seem to find a way around it. have recently installed Vista 64 Premium on my pc. everything installs ok no problem, but whenever i install the drivers for my graphics card (ATI Radeon x1650). i get BSOD or computer just freezes. i have managed to work out its a memory problem with dxgkrnl.sys. if i unistall the dirvers for the card and just run it without, i have no problems with bsod's or crashing. in fact works like a dream. have tried downloading latest drivers from ATI and from windows update, get same problem which ever i use. any ideas how to get round this very frustrating problem?

Have you tried using Vista's native driver?

I beleive that is what i am using now, even though it says there is no driver installed in device manager. and it seems to work ok at the moment with no driver installed. but would prefer to have a proper driver in there for when i start gaming

Are you installing the Display Driver or the Catalyst Software Suite (64 bit)?

Anyhow, a little research on that error message reveals it could be as a result of a few things; ranging from an inadequate PSU, or overheating (inadequate case cooling) to incorrect BIOS settings. Don't be surprised if you are only able resolve this via an elaborate process of elimination.

How long have you had this card?

Can we also have a detailed list of your system specification?

Hi there, i have tried both ways, with just a display driver (doesnt give me bsod as often) or with the catalyst (bsod often).

I am funning a foxxcon 6150k8ma m/b with an AMd athlon 64 4000+ processor, 4 gb pc3500 DDR Ram, 450w PSU, 250gb Sata HD, Sata DVD-RW and think thats about it.
Gonna replace my M/B soon anyway as i like the look of the intel q6600 quad core and the prices have started to drop here in the UK, but thats a good month away before i will do that, but probly will be the motherboard as its cheap s--- lol.
WHat setting in the bios could cause this problem? Thanks for all your help so far

450W does not say much for a PSU. What is the make & model of the PSU?

hi, sorry about late reply, was having a fun weekend and only now just recovering lol. not sure what make my psu is. it came with the case. had a quick look and all it says on it is x-power 450w. is there a difference then between qualities for the psu's you can buy? thought they would all be the same supplying the same amount of power. what would you recommend for a good psu?
thanks for your help guys so far, would never have suspected the psu.

*******update******

just an update for all your guys, and another conumdrum of a problem, reinstalled the drivers from windows update (this caused me to crash when ever i have tried before, however, i did not update my windows expereince index like i had before, and guess what? no bsod's. no freezing, no crashing, nothing. decided to test my theory and updated my index score, did a restore point first and bsod's and crashing was the result. so restored to save point before i updated the index score and no problems yet again. so its somthing to do with vista premium 64 windows expereince index score thats casuing all my problems. so i think i can saftly forget about updating the score and just use my pc as normal. graphics card is working 100% and no crashes. woohoo. anybody have any idea how this index score could cause these problems?
