OS: XP Media/Vista
CPU/Ram: 2 GHz/1GB
Product: Acer Aspire 5050
Comment:

I have an Acer Aspire 5051 laptop(Actually a 5050). It is running XP Media Centre and came with a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.
However the upgrade has halted. The laptop seems to be on but the screen is blank. There are no flashing lights suggesting that it is busy. The only lights on are the charged battery light and the poweer light. Also the little light actually on the power button. The fan is also still working as the laptop is still warm. The screen however is not on.

I am not sure whether the install was completed as I had just left it to do its thing, as it takes a few hours and it had been turning on and off as part of the upgrade process. The last point I had seen was that it had reached about 60% on the completing upgrade part, but it may have gotten further. I have left it over night in its current "frozen" state.

Is there anything I can do other than just holding down the power button and resetting?
Does anyone know some kind of tecchie way of sorting this out?

Other than that try look up Acer Vista Upgrade FAQ HERE for possible resolution. FYI this page takes time to load.

Well it's more for Acer to address than it is for M$. All I know is that M$ never have dictated to the OEM system builders how the Express upgrade should work.

BTW have you installed anything on the laptop ever since you got it? I imagine that it could be the reason why the express upgrade isn't working the way Acer designed it. Again I could be wrong with this scenario.

OMG this thing is HORRIBLE!!
i finally finished step 2 for the upgrade, which means vista is supposed to be fully loaded..
but when it restarts the computer, i get the "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" and it won't load the OS.
Basically at the beginning, i have to set it so that it removes VISTA and reloads XP. But because I had to load VISTA, it removed many of the drivers and components of my system, which means i can't even get my sound on and god knows what else.

PLS HELP..
