Subject: Vista Ultimate - won't install

Comment:

Ok so I had been running RC1, RC2 and the RTM (as a trial version) over the last few months. They've all installed fine and without a hitch.

So I bought Vista Ultimate OEM and it arrived today. I run setup and enter my key, choose my partition (Drive E, 160GB, with 90GB free) and then it copies files.

After a few minutes, it completes this and moves onto expanding files, so far so good. Then after the first reboot, the setup program starts and I get this:

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i...

This happens with OR without me selecting the "Go online to get updates" at the start of the installation process. So why it's complaining about networks I don't know?

Any ideas here? I'm fuming because all my other versions, like I say, have installed perfectly.

Thanks,

Alex

Thanks XPUser, but I checked on Google by inputting that precise error code, but can't find anything relevant to my problem - mine occurs on the first reboot of the installation process, and I've scoured the results on Google but can't find anything that relates to this. It seems that this particular error code has many meanings.

I don't even know why you chose to reinstall in the first place, all you should have done was activated your trial RTM using the "Product Key" from the Ultimate media that you just purchased.

RTM = Retail without any extra glitter ;-)

True, but I wanted to use my shiny new DVD - I paid for it after all ;)

Anyway, I've sorted it now - it wasn't installing because the root of Drive E didn't have Administrator access rights in the security tab.

So talk about a cryptic error message!

You paid for the license - the DVD was a freebie ;-)
