I bought my computer and it came with vista. I like XP better and I was wondering if I bought the XP upgrade would it change Vista to XP or would I have to buy the full version of XP?

You can't do an in-place downgrade from Vista to XP & you certainly would need an earlier than XP Windows media for verification if you intend to clean install XP using the upgrade CD that you plan on purchasing.

For now though I would suggest reviewing the links at the end of this response for use with your Vista machine rather that forking over money to buy Windows XP. A worse case scenario is to divert a fraction of what you could have spent on buying an XP upgrade disc to a program like WindowBlinds & download something like XP's Luna theme for it.

Last option is to get yourself familiar with Vista. After all, you already got a machine with the OS pre-loaded & it is inevitable that you will eventually migrate away from XP anyway whether you are ready or not.

I do not feel that there will be another OS/2 based O/S after Vista, 20+ years and still not right, jeez!

Home Basic at best is not as superior to XP as them other versions of Vista & if you've got it for free - might as well put it to some use rather than paying for something else (like XP) to serve the same purpose.

Unless it is coming with a new PC, I would never recommend anyone - especially users upgrading from an OS like XP - to buy Home Basic as a retail OS, it just isn't a wise bargain.

It wont read my cable modem. It gives me an error that it cannot find my internet provider. When I connect my cable to my old computer it will read and connect right away.

Have you contacted your ISP's support desk - you might as well use the service since you are probably paying for it in some form.
