I have a friend who is very unhappy with Vista. She wants to get rid of it and install xp pro. Is the best way to do that- by formatting the hard drive 1st - then installing xp pro, or is there a better procedure? Thanks

Reply:
boot from a windows XP cdrom into windows setup, delete all partitions and create new partition(s) from the unpartitioned disk space.
note: doing this will delete ALL data on this hard drive.
btw, running vista with only 256 MB ram would make anyone 'very unhappy'.

If you do not have any other software or driver problems due to old hardware, I suggest you increase the RAM to about 1 GB and try Vista again.
What you should do in my opinion is, you should download the Vista upgrade advisor from MS web site and run it on the PC in question and find out the problem points and try to sort them out before you downgrade to XP.
