I've been presented today with a machine I looked at Last week (thursday sept 11 2008) which ran fine then and is now stuck in a boot loop...
I tried all the Msoft repair options System restore notes its last restore point as 9/12/2008 5:22:13 PM Install: windows update System restpre allways regardless of restore point chosen Reports
Ststem Restore Failed Due to an Unspecified Error. Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy check). 0x80070017)
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the owner of the computer needs the computer for daily function

The crc is not good. Seems to suggest a problem with some part of the data. That might range from memory to ide to cables to hard drive.
You should boot to the DVD and copy files off. Then try a clean boot or maybe a diag suite.

When the machine is booting press F8 at the point between the end of POST and windows logo - (you have about a 2 second window)
a text menu should appear - choose "LAST KNOWN SETTINGS THAT WORKED" or LAST KNOWN GOOD SETTINGS

I had this problem when I formated my laptop, what I did is unpluged any usb on my computer and then it loaded good, maybe give it a try and this will help, take care.
