Comment:

I've just got a new (Packard Bell) PC and it has Vista Home Premium. When I turn on the PC, it takes between 3 and 4 minutes for Vista to become fully loaded. Is this normal ? If not what can I do to speed things up please ? Thanks Bazza

go to the start icon and click on it and then type in msconfig and then go to the startup tab and deselect anything that you dont want starting up. Be careful some of those services are required. Also you might want to go to the website listed below and it will give a description on how to speed up your computer also. Pay attention to the services, some services in vista are not required.

The first thing you should do is download & apply all hotfix & patch from Windows Update site. As an FYI many of the updates have already addressed and corrected the slow bootup time and other performance issues.

You should be able to get your computer to startup in under a minute with the proper configuration. You may want to disable some startup services and programs or reconfigure the boot order. You may disable indexing services.

How to disable this indexing service
1. Click on Start
2. Click Run
3. Type services.msc
4. Select Indexing Service and Double click on it.
Select Manual under Startup Type.
5. Click Stop
6. Click OK
