The never ending & very strong criticism, plus the extent to which many seem prepared to go in order to avoid Vista seem to have gotten to M$. If you care to: do take a look & you be the judge.

..... Still think you are not ready for Vista?

"Still think you are not ready for Vista?"

Yep I sure do, this article proves my views on Windows Vista! It is slower than XP in most cases. Thanks for sharing this article.

"I just installed Vista Ultimate this morning. It runs suprisingly well, installed in about 45 minutes. I do hate the UAC thing, though. I have that disabled now. It seems real fast to me. I thought it would use all 512MB of RAM in the system, but only uses about 384MB on idle. The Windows Sidebar is great! Overall, I like it. It would be nice if I could get it to run on fewer resources, but I guess it takes more resources to run a newer OS."

Hey you're welcome .... LOL!

Oh & BTW .... you made that comment way before SP1 was put together.

I said XP is faster than Vista. Vista is fast, but certainly not faster than XP. Vista slowed down even more after I got the anti-virus up and running (Avast).

Don't try to prove people wrong or prove that they are contradicting themselves unless you have facts to back up your argument.

LOL, Saber how could you? He is only 12 or going on 13. Come on man cut the kid some slack. =D

Anyhow I don't know why people think Vista SP1 was going to be a God send Service Pack for Vista, because it wasn't. I wasn't expecting it to beat XP SP2, but I was expecting it to close the gap and it has done just that. It's going to take another SP from Vista to prob either tie XP's performance or outperform XP, but I think matching it will be a more realistic goal. I don't see XP SP3 doing much for XP in terms of performance considering it's basicly going to be one giant security update package. I don't see MS tweaking XP SP3 even more, because the goal is to attract people to use Vista and not to make XP even more faster then Vista.

Touché .... Cobra ;-)

I wasn't planning on countering the kid's dissent or lack of one. Just trying to highlight the fact that he's just kidding around .... pun unintended.

I sure am not going to rely on the now contrite analysis of someone who had earlier claimed Vista was running more than flawless on a machine with 512MB of RAM.

It is arguably apparent he never bothered to read the benchmark piece, or he would have noticed at least one of the handful of improvement that is directly attributed to SP1, but then again, the angry crowd never can see the forest for the trees.

I really doesn't matter how vista seems to be fast. All reality it is not. I seem to be using xp more than I do with vista. The gains from SP3 for xp will prove that xp will have the edge instead of vista. I think that after SP2 for vista comes out xp will be the most common used operating system.

I don't see how a system with 512MB RAM can handle Vista and run fine. (Unless your previous sytem was a Pentium 1 or so) I have a E6300 /w 4Gig DDR2 800mhz and when I turn on my PC its using one 1gig already. I honestly can't see how you live with 512.

No one should really expect Vista SP1 to beat XP SP2, and XP has been out for roughtly 7 years? If Vista SP1's performance is close to XP's I would say they are doing a good job.

Who said I was a "kid"? I sure didn't.

"Touché .... Cobra ;-)"

No, I was trying to show you how you can not make yourself look so silly in the future. The quote you had to dig back into the archives to find wasn't a good one.

"I don't see how a system with 512MB RAM can handle Vista and run fine."

Me neither, but like I said, it was fine until I put the anti-virus software on it. That was when it slowed down.

I agree 100% with Beginner1's comment.

"It is arguably apparent he never bothered to read the benchmark piece, or he would have noticed at least one of the handful of improvement that is directly attributed to SP1, but then again, the angry crowd never can see the forest for the trees."

I read the whole thing, but what difference does it make?

I don't understand what that comment means but it sure doesn't sound nice. You people here on CN are so quick to criticize people and to make them look bad. All I did was say that I agree with the article, and then you have to come at me with things I've said in the past hoping that you would trip me up to look like I'm contradicting myself (even though I'm not). If that kind of smart behaviour keeps up, you could lose friends and replies to posts because people won't want that kind of treatment. It's rude, impolite, and unprofessional on your part.

BTW, I'm not "reaching for anything I can". I'm reaching for the facts.

"I'm not going to come down to that level"

That statement right there shows that you think that you're better than me, and it shows the pride you have. Beware, "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." IMO, you look silly already .... LOL!

Oh, I see now. It just happens that 1996 was the year I became a Christian. It was the best thing I've ever done. To make sure I clarify, it's not my age.

"XP is slower than ME."

I've found XP to be faster than both ME and 98SE, even on older P2-class hardware. I'm guessing that it's XP's efficient memory management and allocation of CPU time. MS really nailed that operating system. :)
