For the people that love Windows Vista (I hear there are some) can you make suggestions about why Vista is so slow. My friend has the above machine and it takes up to 5 minutes to finish booting up. Shutting down sometime takes just as long.
I also have the same computer except mine is 2.0 GHZ with 1.0GB of memory. However even mine is slow. I keep thinking about gong back to XP but am trying to give Vista a fair chance. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

hi there..
Please check the start-up application: to do this follow the below steps:
*press start button
*run or type the word msconfig
*go to start-up tab and select what application to disable to deactivate the application from running during start-up.NOTE: please take note that for you to be able to fully use the features and enjoy VISTA OS you need more thatn 1G of RAM.

512 MB RAM? well, that says it all.
upgrade the system memory.
Laptop memory (e.g. 2GB PC5300 667 MHz) is dead cheap ... like $30 something.
check www.crucial.com

Okay so it is true that Vista is a memory hog. Thanks I will try upgrade the memory and ley you know the results.

Vista is just like ANY OTHER new OS... it requires more memory. It happened with win98 to XP... it happened from win 95 to 98. I'm so amazed people expected something different with Vista!! They install vista to a machine that BARELY even meets the requirements for XP and then stand back and blame Vista when they have problems.
I have Vista 64 and it boots up faster than anything I have had to this point. It's up and ready to run in less than 45 seconds.
If you upgrade your machine to match vista's standards you won't have a problem
