Vista Running Slow

OS: Vista Home Premium
CPU/Ram: 2GB
Product: Sony VAIO VGC-RC110G
Comment:

Here is the specs for my VAIO:

Pentium D Processor
250GB Hardrive
2GB RAM
3.00GHz
Cable Internet (512 kbps connected to a router for wi-fi).

- I have real-time scanning antivirus (BitDefender Plus v10 - Vista compatible)
- System Mechanic 7 (Vista compatible)
- Diskeeper Professional 2007
- Registry Mechanic
- System Doctor
- Office 2007

All of these claim to work with Vista, but I don't know 100% if that's correct since my PC has been going awfully slow.

i.e. when I right-click (to copy something lets say), it takes forever just for the task menue to pop up. When I paste something in to Word 2007, it takes forever to paste. When I enter certain websites (i.e. wikipedia, WWE.com etc.) it takes forever to load, and sometimes IE7 will not respond.

My PC is lagging on almost everything and I know it's capable to handle Vista Home Premium, so what is the problem?

Thanks to whomever helps

with all of those 3rd party disk utilities, those are mostly spyware.
your computer is probably hijacked.
i fixed one last week that was the same way.
run your restore for the system files, and that should fix it.
you could run the hijackthis software ,and see whats nagging it.

When it is running slow, bring up the task manager/resource monitor and see what is taking all your resources. If your memory is all used, figure out what is causing it, if your CPU is at 100% when this happens, figure out what program(s) are using all of your CPU.

Could be spyware but it could be something else too. I had norton start using all my CPU for some unknown reason. It was causing all sorts of lag issues. I reinstalled it and its been fine ever since. I cant wait for me free trial of norton to be over so I can get a better antivirus. :)

You might be running an anti-virus software that is not yet compatible with Windows Vista. I ran the evaluation copy of Vista for 9 months using AVAST Anti-Virus and it was good but slow when I finally purchaed the final release of Vista I tried AVG's free edition Anti-Virus and now it is running super fast compared to AVAST. AVG Anti-Virus is available from Download.com and it is absolutely free.

Too many anit-virus software can sometimes interact with each other and in some cases try to delete each other.
