Subject: Vista re-partitioning
OS: Vista
CPU/Ram: E6850 / 2GB
Comment:

I originally partitioned my HDD to be 100GB for C:, 400 for D:. This was a mistake.

How can I move the ton of free space from C to D?

You can reduce the 100GB partition using the shrink feature in Vista. However, you can't use the built-in disk management tool to combine the left over partition--whatever the size is--with the separate 400GB.

You would need a 3rd party tool for that.

Any recommendations that work with Vista?

(I miss Partition Magic).

Any 3rd party partition manager that's worth anything is one that IS NOT connected to an OS at all.

Ranish is one, but the one I like and use is actually a multi tool system called BOOTitNG

You can add the D: drive as a folder in C:\. For example C:\olddrive\ would contain the entire contents of what was D:.

You can shrink or expand if you have free space on D:

See this and the MS site. http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02...

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10
