Depends what you want to repair. The equivalent of XP's repair reinstall which can be run booting from XP disk can only be run from within windows with Vista - and not safe mode (using the upgrade option). If you can't boot into Vista, you can boot the vista install DVD which has a repair option. It will repair startup issues (this includes corrupt system files) and give you access to system restore or a command prompt.

I have a few minor issues with kids doing what they should not do and something is not right (ie unresponsive mouse and yes i have reinstalled the driver and the mouse worked before and it works on another computer)plus some other issues dll files but at this point i dont want to format as i dont have the time to reinstall all my progs drivers etc
so i wanted to do the reinstall repair as in xp
btw i can boot into vista and i have the vista ultimate disc i just cant find the repair option

If you put your Vista disk in and boot from it, you go through the option to install Windows where you choose location, language etc., then you get to another page where it says 'Windows Vista' with an 'Install now' button underneath. If you then look in the bottom left corner of the same screen you'll see an option to 'Repair your computer' - this does the same as the XP version did, doesn't delete your files etc.
