I got vista premium free as it got sent to me by my pc manufacturer. I noticed I can upgrade to the ultimate edition for something like £150. Is there that much difference and is it worth doing?

Thankyou for your time.

Not worth it at all IMO, I only went for Ultimate for the Ultimate Extras downloads (though it was OEM so a tad cheaper - had I gone for Home Premium I'd have obviously saved more though!) but there has been nothing new in the Ultimate Extras since the day I bought it and first installed.

There are only THREE features which Ultimate has which Home Premium does not, and all three are designed for CORPORATE computers, basically, and ALL THREE have to do with backing-up and protecting business Networks.

Few (if any) home users will ever need any of these features.

Microsoft did an excellent job of separating Vista's feature-set into home use and business use.

Both Vista Home Premium and Vista Ultimate have the SAME media access features, as well as the SAME GUI feature-set (the Aero Desktop), as well as both having Windows Media Center built-in.

The home user pays an extra $100 for three features he will most probably never need or use when he purchases Vista Ultimate.

I suggest that you use this extra $100 to take your family out for a nice meal. You will all be more satisfied in the end, and will get a better value for your money, as well as strengthening the familial bond you all share.

Since the Express upgrade to Vista was included in your hardware purchase, I would just forget about Ultimate entirely.

Of course, it's your money...
