Interesting, brief article about how Vista sales are down by 60% when compared to the 2001 launch & sales of XP.

Even the Aerial Dancers for Vista didn't help fulfill Ballmer & Gates dream of a greater replay of the Windows 98 midnight madness (Gates still won't fire his college buddy Ballmer)

Yup... Methinks I'm staying with the ole' workhorse XP Home in both my Dell's. It runs beautiful, works beautiful, plus there are too many driver issues with Vista right now.

Are you guys stickin' with XP too ?

Absolutely even though I got myself Hp loaded with Vista Home Premium. The only rteason for it is to get myself better acquainted with the crap OS so I can service my clients.

In the grand scheme of things, piracy is not the bulk of where the sales lag is (except maybe in places like China) - but then again I don't see someone buying something they can't afford, just because they could not otherwise pirate it.. IMHO, XP's reliability and the cost vs performance benefit to be derived from a Vista upgrade among other things should be blamed for it I'm sure Stevie boy knows the (piracy) emotional appeal won't elicit a sudden turn of events - but it is much better approach than to admit the obvious.

Sometimes, what people chose to not admit is what they are acknowledging...........(I hate to sound like Yogi).

Actually, the general public has no real reason to leave XP behind. Why? Because its a good and stable operating system. Not like what was in place prior to XP. 99% of the people I know who were running ME could not get away from it fast enough.

The check apparently will have to wait ...MS lawyers are too distracted with another upcoming legal battle involving Federal Trademark infringement filed against Redmond.

Almost forgot this -

M$ needs more money - can you imagine how much it is costing M$ to defend themselves from AT&T lawsuit currently being heard in the U.S. Supreme Court?

I disagree XpUser. Even in its infancy, with drivers at a shortage for exisitng hardware, compatible new hardware at a shortage, compatible software at a shortage, XP still ran much better than ME on day 1. Of course my comments are from my own pseronal experience and from just about everyone I know who was running ME at the time.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.as...

at a recent pc fair i attended vista home ed £58 (no takers), XP £45 (hot cakes), seems Bills got a lot of convincing to do for xp users to swap over.
heres a bizzare incident, an isp i had the misfortune of speaking to last week while trying to connect a clients pc to his internet, erm we dont support vista yet any chance you can upgrade to XP .....! & you will need a new dsl modem,, out in march,
(what??) more fun @ talktalk. Xpuser you have it right in post 4.

Technical Support (ISP inclusive) personnel are never against any excuse to dodge support calls & they have been known to even make one up if they suspect they'll get away with it, but at least they are just trying to contain support costs & not really trying to majorly rip anyone off.

Talk about we don't support Vista yet..........LOL

I am not surprised. I remember when XP came out myself and everyone else rushed out to grab it since it was such a huge improvement over Windows 2000. It reached a point where we pretty much have everything we need and the extra stuff that is at a high price is not necessary.

Judging from the number of users posting problems and searching the forums for solutions, the 60% may be a product of well-justified reluctance. Unfortunately, I'm one of the 40%, so off I go now in search of a solution to "No Audio Device Installed."
