I want to change the partition on the laptop and install XP. What kind of partition does vista have? Now if I want to go back to vista later, can I install it on NTFS partition or I have to change back to its original partition? and how to do that at that time knowing that I dont want to use dual systems at the same time.

WinXP cannot format a HDD that was used for a Vista installation. You have to delete the partition to reinstall WinXP. There’s a description here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transa... also scroll down to ‘See Also’ for other changes.
Alternatively, to erase a HDD that had Vista on it and to reload XP, this will certainly erase it, here http://www.killdisk.com/
Also, make sure you have both the Vista DVD and XP CD if you want to keep reinstalling the operating systems.
