Comment: This laptop came with vista installed. Much of my software was xp software and designed for a computer with a single processor. I find that the second process or is not used by my old software. Would it be best for me to uninstall vista and return to xp. If not, why? Also, is ther any software designed for two processors? james

Reply: (edit)No. Dual core processors work both ways. It has no effect on a single threaded programs and they run just fine on it. All a dual core does is have an extra core to utilize multiple task or multiple threaded programs when needed. When running a single threaded program Core 1 will be used while Core 2 stays in a standby like state waiting to be used if needed. Yes many newer games are designed for multipile cores, so are many software suites like Adobe photoshop, Nero and other picture and video suites. But while they utlize it by doing two things at once, Vista utilzes dual cores as well. If you are burning a CD or Video you can have one core do all the work like Core 1 while another core like Core 2 will allow you to do other task without delay or lag.
